Hey, I'm a senior at UCSD majoring in vis art media and minoring in cognitive science. My GPA's not bad and I have some experience working for a school paper as illustrator. I don't feel like I'm getting enough technical instruction though, as I have had minimal experience in finalcut pro, photoshop and protools (I have at least four more quarters to go, which I'm sure will teach me more about these programs). I'm planning on learning illustrator on my own. I can't figure out what kind of career this is supposed to prepare me for though... I'm open to lots of different paths and I'm pretty good at traditional representation, which is why I chose a more technological major, but of course so are a lot of people. I love art but I really want job security. Does anyone have any advice for career paths? Any at all would be much appreciated.

I felt like I was going into the whole admissions process blind, and I don't dislike my current situation, but I'm scared that I'm missing important information! Career counseling has not been very helpful and has proven pretty idealistic even in this economy.
