I took Spanish I last year as a sophmore in high school and I am know taking Spanish II in high school. I find it very difficult and I study, but I still get horrible grades. It isn’t a graduation requirement to take any foreign language, but i plan on going to college and would like to have at least 2 years of a foreign language. Should I just drop the class. The hardest part about it is that I can’t seem to remember all of the vocab and all the verbs. I struggled with Spanish I a lot last year and I’m sure E-Learning didn’t help my case at all.
Personally I found it very tough to learn a second language until I started to use it outside of class. I started watching the news in the language I was learning (French). This has the advantage that since I had already seen the news in English, I already had some idea what they were talking about which made it more understandable. I also started watching hockey games in French – again I had some clue what was going on from the video which made it easier to follow. If you can similarly watch some TV or movies in Spanish this is likely to help you quite a bit.
Another thing that might help is to find other students in your class who are willing to get together over lunch and attempt to only speak Spanish for the entire lunch. If you could get your teacher or a stronger student to sit with you that would help also.
