basically i'm hoping that piano will really help me because i spend so much time on it (14 hrs/wk) and i'm sending in a recording and a resume. i play at the conservatory level but most of my awards are from before junior year (i have a competition in NYC in early nov, but it will be too late to put on my app by then)

i also spend 12 hrs/wk with wushu so that's a big part of my life. i know ECs can't compensate for mediocre grades/test scores but maybe they'll be just a little forgiving? i really really want to go to yale, it's my first choice :/

also, no idea if this will help at all, but first time i took SAT I i got a 600 in CR...will the 140-point improvement count for anything?

I don't predict chances, but heads up that Yale was particular about the content and length of music CDs last year: 2 pieces from contrasting periods, 10 minutes max. If you haven't already checked with the Music Dept., I suggest that you verify the requirements for this year. Also, I love your screen name!

thanks for the heads up. though, according to the supplements page they didn't put up any time limit:
Supplementary Materials | Application to Yale College | Freshmen | Office of Undergraduate Admissions

is there another place where they might put up that info? they didn't put an email for music supplement questions on that page :/
i was planning on sending 1 piece that was about 7-8 minutes...

and thanks about the screen name :)

My son learned the details for last year during an informational interview with the Department of Music. The name of the woman he spoke with is not listed on the department's contact page, so I'm not sure if she's still there, but here's the contact information. Yale Department of Music > Contact Information I suggest calling the department at Yale and all your schools. My son discovered last year that the requirements varied from school to school. Some were pretty loose, but I do recall that every school he applied to wanted at least two pieces of contrasting style.

oh okay thanks i see the requirements, this clears up a lot of things :)

man college apps stress me out

blvd: Yes, preparing CDs does add a layer of complexity to the already complex process of preparing college apps. But it looks like your grades and scores put you within range for highly selective schools, and if you are a conservatory caliber pianist, making that CD can only help your applications. Good luck.
