I'm an International. Merit Scholarship?

I'm an international student from Korea looking to apply to Michigan.

On the common application future plans section for Michigan, there are these questions

Do you intend to apply for need based aid?

Do you intend to apply for merit based scholarship?

I know that, especially as an international applicant, applying for need based aid decreases my chances. So I'm saying NO to the first question. But what about merit based scholarship? I don't see why it would affect my chances of getting in. So, should I say yes to the second question? Does applying for merit based scholarship decrease my admission chances?

(I don't even know if Michigan offers merit scholarship to internationals, actually)

And, if I do apply for merit based scholarship, do I need to do anything other than saying yes to the question above? Do I need a separate application?

thank you in advance

There’s no point in applying for need based scholarships, because Michigan won’t give you any. You’re required to have sufficient funds to pay for your education in the US to receive your F1 visa.

However, it is possible to get merit based scholarship from your school in Michigan. However, I’m not sure if they’re offered to incoming freshmen.
