Hi all! This is my first post, I just finished my A.A. from a Community College. I'm not all that competitive when it comes to Universities. I just applied at University of Washington Philosophy major because that is all I've taken at the Comm. College, the problem is, there are no jobs that I like for Philosophy majors, obviously I cannot become a professional philosopher, haha. I took the M-B test online, and I'm an INTJ, the perfect career for me would be Engineering, Lawyer, Doctor or Military Leader. I'd rather not be a lawyer, because I do NOT like dealing with people in any way, unless they want to talk about philosophy, hehe. I now decided that the best job for me would be an Aerospace or Astrospace Engineer. BUT, I haven't taken ANY related classes to A&A Engineering!! I'm so behind in math, I calculated it would take me 2 more year just to get the requirements done to APPLY for Aerospace Program at the University of Washington. Is it worth it? Should I go for it? I'm 21 and if all goes as planned, I will finish my B.S. when I am 25!!!!!! Do you think this is a waste of time, or is this a good choice for me? Thanks for the input!

If you like it, then it's a good choice. However, pick something that you REALLY like. don't choose because of some arbitrary test that contains of a few multiple choice questions. If you look, they've spread everyone out so that everything has a something that matches you. Engineers and lawyers are completely different. so take that thing with a gain of salt.

You don't even know if you like it, so don't go make any drastic changes based on some test.

Do what YOU want to do. The M-B test results are not ultra-accurate, nor are the suggested careers THE list. The career list is just a group of careers that a particular group seem to do well in. Remember, personality types help you describe who you are, they do not dictate your style.

I've looked at other careers and engineering "seems" like the best choice. Am I too old for it? im 21?

Many people get out of engineering college later than other simply because it's harder & has more classes. So really, 25 isn't that bad to begin with. Also, employers can't discriminate on age (and really, they don't care).

If anything, older employees are better, because 1. they are more likely to settle down, 2. more experience, even though in the OPs case there's no more experience in engineering, older people still have more experince in life in general.

Sir Bertrand Russell and Ludwig Wittgenstein are amongst the most important figures of the 20th century philosophy. Arguably THE most important figures in 20th century analytic philosophy. In 1908, Wittgenstein ran across Russell's philosophical works while he was studying aeronautics in Manchester. The rest is history. Well, and this is the begining of one of the greatest philosophers in the history of mankind:

According to Russell, Wittgenstein produced an essay for Russell to judge saying ‘If I am a complete idiot I shall become an aeronaut; but, if not, I shall become a philosopher’. Russell says that after reading only one sentence, he replied ‘No, you must not become an aeronaut.’

If you really believe in that INTJ thing and decide to drop philosophy for Aerospace, it's probably good for you to study Aerospace Engineering. I'm being sincere.
