Personality test and choosing a career--does this sound familiar to anyone?

My daughter took a test recently that showed her personality is ESTP.

Many of the jobs for which she is suited according to that personality test result don't require a 4 yr college degree. Yet she is quite an intelligent person.

I don't know whether to just ignore the findings or what. Has anyone else seen that kind of mismatch?

She has no idea what to major in. I wish I could use these findings as an indication of which direction to go in.

Yes, I did a few personality tests. I think I was ISTJ. It doesn't mean that she shouldn't go to college or anything. They're just there to provide suggestions about what jobs might be suitable for her. She'll probably base her major on what she likes to study, rather than what majors are most appropriate for getting a job on a personality test.

Don't base your future on a personality test. I think I'm INTP, but I'm not really sure what that means in terms of career paths, nor do I really care. Sure, it's interesting (and might be helpful in the sense that it opens her eyes to other career paths she might be well suited for), but your daughter should base her major and ultimately her career choice on what she's interested in studying, not what the personality test tells her to do.

It's interesting to know, but I wouldn't make any rash decisions with it.

I'm an ESFP, which is best suited for being in the performing arts or careers in the service industry that require people skills. In college, I majored in civil engineering and enjoyed it! Doesn't exactly fit the mold, eh? On the other hand, I'm working in construction management, which is a blend between a very technical job and a "people skills" job.
