I'm Beginning to doubt myself, chance me for Dartmouth

I am considering doing ED next year because I will most likely be a RECRUITED ATHLETE. As a recruited athlete are my scores and EC's good enough? I know that being recruited help your chances quite a bit.

I go to the best public school in San Diego for academics and the 4x4 block schedule makes it a difficult school to do well at.

American studies/Political Science major
GPA UW: 3.87
GPA W: 4.11
SAT: Super score: M 720 CR 680 W 780 Total: 2180
SAT2: Haven't yet taken but this is what I'm thinking USH 780, Span w/ listening 760
AP Test: I think I will only send 3 scores which will be all 4 or 5's.

Clubs: Clubs: President of Geography Club, President and founder of Youth Democrats Club (I founded a chapter of Youth Democrats of America), Vice President of Squash Club, Member of Peer Advisory Club

Work: Internship at Solana Beach City Hall with the Mayor he wrote me a letter of recommendation.

Volunteer: 4th grade basketball coach for 3 years, camp counselor, Temple volunteer, San Dieguito River Conservatory with the rangers, Teen Volunteers in Action ABOUT 400 HOURS IN TOTAL.

Sports: 9th grade JV Basketball and Track, 10th grade JV basketball and V Track, 11th grade Co-Captain of Squash team, JV Cross Country and V Track, 12th grade Co-Captain of Squash team, JV Cross Country and V Track.

Other: White and Jewish. Upper middle class. I surf and shoot photography every weekend.

ALSO, VERY IMPORTANT:
I made a political/history website and formed an empire of friends to help me make it famous. (not yet launched) I have my finger crossed it will do well.

I think my most impressive features are: I can long jump 20 feet, my SAT writing score, my internship, my website, and my volunteer hours.

UNFORTUNATELY:
2 things: I'm really bummed out about my course rigor, I did take some non-honors classes and missed out on some AP classes. Also, this isn't really in my control but I have observed that Dartmouth is a huge fan of Affirmative Action/First Generation College students/Low income applicants. I am glad that they look at features like that: However, I fall into none of those categories.

Any suggestions

The California state high school long jump record is over 26 feet. Is 20 feet (that would have been as a sophomore?) enough to get you recruited? Have you contacted the track coach? Each team has directions on the website about how to contact them, what to send, when to do it, etc. If you can get into the recruited athlete pool, I would think your test scores and GPA (even it includes some “rocks for jocks” courses) would make you a pretty strong candidate. If not, you’re going to look like a lot of other applicants.

Thanks, last season at Dartmouth the average jump was around 21 feet so it’s pretty good for Dartmouth’s standards. I haven’t contacted the coach but if I continue to improve I will contact him in late May.

What else would you suggest I do? What am I lacking in?

What other schools are you considering?
How much have your parents agreed to contribute?
Since this is the financial aid thread, you’re likely to get more specific advice in a thread geared toward your sport.

CR 680 + M 720 = 1400 is too low for Dartmouth.

If they want you as an athlete you are way more than fine with your GPA, test scores and EC’s. If not your are in range, but at the low end, and it’s a reach.

rhg3rd: I wil raise it. I promise.

EmeraldKity: Good question, it depends on how my GPA progresses. If I get above a 4.08 GPA then I will email Dartmouth, Bowdoin, and Williams and see what they say. Otherwise I will apply to UCD, UCB, UCSC, Oregon State Honors, Vassar, U of Maryland, Reed, and then the reaches are dependent on my GPA, SAT, and my ability to jump.

My parents want me to go to bad schools on the west coast (CSU’s) so I have do some convincing. As far a financial aid I’m in a sticky situation. I have just enough money in my college saving that colleges look at it and say that I don’t need aid but in reality it’s not quite enough.

“Good question, it depends on how my GPA progresses. If I get above a 4.08 GPA then I will email Dartmouth, Bowdoin, and Williams and see what they say.”

You should probably start a dialogue with the coaches now. They will be able to tell you if they are interested in you and what types of grades and scores they would need to see if they are. Good luck!!

Ok Falcon, I might. Just a quick question: Do you think that knowing the San Diego County admission interviewer since I was 3 increases my chances because it will ultimately make my interview impeccable.
