I'm completely clueless about fin aid

Since I am relatively new to the U.S. I don't know much about applying for fin aid. I'm a hs senior and was wondering what I need to do in order to secure any fin aid? Also when do I need to apply? Help me!

normally you'd need to file the FAFSA in january for federal financial aid.
but since you say you're relatively new to the US, I don't know if it works the same way.

Um... I'm a legal resident and which Jan? Senior year end or Junior year?

haha, senior year.
you really don't need to worry about it until after admissions. also, depending on the college they might have other specific requirements, but those also would all happen after applications.
but the FAFSA is the main thing. (it's not even available until january of your senior year).

the fafsa will evaluate your family income and such, and make an official decision on how much your family can pay. it'll then be up to the college whether or not they meet that need.

thanks a lot

I'm from the US of A and I am ignorant about FA. Is the FA process wholly separate from the applicant assessment part of admissions? Above, it was mentioned that FAFSA is done in January.

What is the deadline for applying? January? So, is FA done after applying?

I don't know exactly what the deadline is... but it's probably march-ish.
january is the earliest it's done, and yes it's done after applying.
