When would be a good time to start writing college essays (I'm a senior now.)
Also what do I write? I am completely new to this whole thing. Helpful replies appreciated.

Btw when do colleges start accepting applications cause I got an email from USC saying they were accepting part one of the application now. Btw 2- How is USC?

now would be fine. Common App comes out in July.

USC is a pretty decent school. Other than that, you should look it up on Collegeboard or a college guide to determine if you like it. It's a big school (so not LAC) has sunny weather (I don't see why anyone wouldn't like this but whatever) and has a pretty vibrant social scene. And then there is some other stuff. Go check it out yourself.

What should I write the essay on? Please I'm tense as hell now, does it need to be done by July and when do I need to start turning applications in cause I thought that would be in the winter or b4 summer at the end senior year? Please clear up my misconceptions.

each college has different deadlines for applications. For many, their regular decision deadline falls between january 1st- febuary 15th.

For what you write your essays on, it depends on what colleges you apply to. If you go to the websites of the colleges you're interested in, there should be an 'apply now' link somewhere in the prospective students section.
If you click on it, often times it will give you a pdf file of their application, and on that it will give you the essay prompts.

that's if you're applying to each school individually. Are you planning on doing the common application?

"Common Application (informally known as the Common App) is a college admission application that students may use to apply to any of 321 member colleges and universities in the United States. It reduces the workload of students who would otherwise have to complete separate applications to several colleges." - Wikipedia :)

and what it is, is instead of filling out 8 different applications (which takes a lot of time), you fill out one.
Now, nearly ever college has a supplemental essay (sometimes more than one), but it still cuts down the time (and I think the cost... will someone clarify this point, please).

I got that same email and filled out Part 1. It's pretty simple stuff, like your address, GPA, SAT scores, etc. It also costs $10 fill out. You'll get access to Part 2 after July 15th, that's the part that has the essays and all that other good stuff. It's due December 10th if you intend to apply for a scholarship.
