I'm confused!!!

Most of the schools I’m applying to say that they announce their decisions on April 1st or slightly before then (Yale, Princeton, Williams, Dartmouth, Swarthmore, Stanford for a sample) but based on some of the posts I’ve seen here, it seems like getting a letter on April 1st is actually a bad thing. Is that true? Why would the schools say they mail responses on April 1st if they don’t (aside from the likely letter things)? Could I get possibly get accepted into Yale on April 1st (or days after by mail delay)?

My son got his acceptance letter from Stanford right around April 1, if not actually on the day. (can't remember if it was the exact day or not) Many very selective colleges DO send them out at that time--they mean what they say.

An acceptance received on April 1 is just as good as one received on March 1. College students don't go around asking when the others received their acceptance letters.

Maybe I should rephrase this..

I was asking if getting a letter on April 1st would be a bad thing b/c that would mean that the letter you receive is a rejection. Are both acceptances and rejections sent out on April 1st? Or are acceptances sent out before April 1st and rejections by April 1st?

yes, both acceptances and rejections are sent out on April 1st
