I'm from Norcal...and yes I do use "hella" occasionally though I must admit I use "dude" more....I hate that word though.

noooooooooooooooooooooo there's only a walmart? noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
whyyyyyyyyyy???????????????????

ad.bc, I saw that you want to go to a CSU for the nursing program...have you considered SF State or Sonoma State? Both are in better locations

Us Californians need to stick together.

Sort of.

Fresno: hot, dry, cows, hay, migrant workers (no offense anyone, but it's true), cold, frozen, fog, CSUF. Good news is that you're still in CA, so you get bragging rights over just about every other state.

well the only reason i was interested in fresno is because they sent me something in the mail

haha, oh the reason of all reasons. wait, are you actually going there? you might like it, i know a TON of people who are CSUF alumni and have great things to say about the school. i would just visit it first, if i were you :)

I too know a lot of people there...great school but if you're a city girl, it's probably not going to be a great fit.

This thread makes me want to sing Californiacation (sp), California Girls, that one song that was on the OC, or that one song by Tupac...anyone following? Haha

I get disoriented when I listen to KROQ for some reason.

I'm from San Diego as well, but nobody from my high school goes to college, so I don't know anyone. Boo.

Fresno is the 6th largest city in CA (a state full of large cities) and the 2nd largest metropolitan area in the central valley (the size of the Sacramento area gets overshadowed by more populous areas in the state, but it's about 2 million, so it's not like Fresno doesn't have decent competition). There is MORE there than hay and cows (although be prepared, if you go to CSUF, for the fact that many people might not believe that).

And if it's really important to you, then relax, the city has at least one large and well-stocked mall: http://www.fashionfairmall.com/directory.asp?list=categories (this has better stores than the two malls that were closest to me, and the same stores as the "good mall" that was nearly a half hour away, and I went to school in LA county).

One thing that Fresno is or has been pretty well-known for is its high crime rate. In particular, there were some very well-publicized murders that took place there a few years back. The rate could have gone down now...I really don't know. Something to look into.

I know a few people who've attended or considered CSUF. For one, it was her dream school. She wants to work for the FBI and they have some relevant undergrad program that's apparently very strong (something with forensics, maybe...I forget). I know another girl who was happy to attend CSUF on a good scholarship, but ended up being able to bring a private college down to comparable cost. There's a lot of good to be gotten out of the CSU system, especially given its relatively low admission standards.

lol, yes, shopping is very important to me!!! it sounds incredibly stupid (actually, it IS incredibly stupid), but that's pretty much the deciding factor in whether im interested in a school or not, if there's good stores there.

when panglossian said there was a walmart there it really freaked me out, but i looked at the mall directory and it actually has some better stores than where i live.

i dont know if im going to go to CSU Fresno, I guess I'll apply there. as long as the only store isnt walmart, I can handle it!!!!! im planning on visiting colleges up north during winter break.

Oh my Lord. shopping? lol, that made me laugh soo hard. Seriously, if you want good shopping apply to like SFSU, SDSU, or CSULB. Bigger areas=much more variety. I've been to Fresno a lot, actually have family there. The campus IS nice, but honestly, there is not a whole lot to do. Fresno is pretty much completely involved in agriculture.

I am from San Jose, CA. I use the word "hella" infrequently.

The crime rate is still relatively high; we're told everyday at the Naval station to be careful if we're going into town because of frequent muggings. I wish I was back in San Diego.

-_- I hate San Jose...it's so over crowded here

I'm going to go to college in California, sooo.... Yay for me.

...and the rest of California is not.

Panglossian: what part of sd were you from?

Well, I'm not from California, but I was stationed at Naval Air Station North Island, on the north part of Coronado Island, for a few months.
