Im Furious. How Do Arrogant People Like Him Get Into Brown?

this kid actually sounds pretty funny

Maybe he wouldn't have gotten into Brown if his peers hadn't let him cheat off their homework and if the girl whom he has been sexually harassing had turned him in. Perhaps instead of blaming Brown for his acceptance, you should blame your peers. If he has some club or class offices, also blame the people who voted for him.

Bay, I'm sorry but that was a really inaccurate explanation. If a supposed "highly intelligent" kid pretends to hump someone during class, then this person is OBVIOSULY NOT highly intelligent. And intellectual people do not need immature things to override their boredom. And who is to say that this person will not be bored with Brown students? Maybe he will come to Brown and find a new person to pretend to hump during class.

This happens every year. Unworthy people either for their stats or their character. People with legacy hooks or other silliness. The admissions process is neither democratic nor fair. They skip over kids with high stats to take someone else with lower scores for all sorts of reasons. Or they take a kid with high stats who has all sorts of social problems. Often those kids wash out in the first semester.

You are not alone. And dont judge a school by an admissions error or omission. It just happens.

A lot of prestigious private colleges prefer kids from prestigiuos private schools...or seem to have a different set of standards for admission: MONEY.

It just is what it is.

Dont dwell on it. There is nothing you can do. He is Brown's problem now. Just thank goodness you wont be going to school with him.

Focus on something positive and refreshing. My D got hammered, very very unjustifiably by her number one choice a year ago. It was a devastating blow and then to add salt to the wound someone with lower scores and a questionable personal character got in and is attending. UGH! So she focused on where she was accepted and is happy. Also, she focused on praising kids who were on the bubble who got in somewhere...even if they were second and third tier schools.....being very supportive for kids without the gifts of good grades and high sat scores who are very good people and deserved a chance at college. She also focused on kids who were disappointed and was a support group for them. Just block out the bad news from people who are snotty and arrogant and focus on helping people who are worthy.

The student in my high school who cheated got into Stanford and then of course cheated there, too, and got caught and suspended.
Your classmate's behavior will have consequences for him in the dorm, in college classes where that kind of behavior is not tolerated (question why that's being permitted in your high school) and in the real world where those people get fired.

Oops you're right, how silly of me! Highly intelligent people would NEVER engage in inappropriate sexual antics. Wait, where did President Clinton go to school again?....

Ha 10

There's a bit of a difference between what two consenting people do in an office and dry-humping someone in the middle of a high school classroom. The former is simply inappropriate; the latter, immature.

That's so horrible. He probably put on a good front for Brown though. Bronw only got to see what he showed them and I guess he showed them something good. You know what though? He'll get what's coming to him eventually so don't even worry about him.

Brown "not open to new ideas"? What? Seems like a college for people who have unusual ideas to me. All that story proves is that admissions officers aren't omniscient.

Except Brown seems like the best college possible for "lazy" people "not open to new ideas."

What is that assumption based on? Not open to new ideas? What about the open curriculum? Brown seems like a pretty progressive school to me.

And I agree with altruist.

who has the more fulfilling life: the joker or the whiner?

*Brown "not open to new ideas"? What? Seems like a college for people who have unusual ideas to me. *

I didn't say Brown isn't open to new ideas. I said Brown is perfect for people don't want any new ideas, and are lazy to boot. Why? Because of the open curriculum! Think about: no requirements. Absolutely no need to go outside one's comfort zone. You think a person who isn't open to new ideas would rather choose a school with a core? Add in Brown's pass/fail policy and it's obvious why the lazy smart people in my school all tried to apply to Brown.

Sometimes people have already considered carefully and rejected what you consider "new ideas". What's new to you may not be new to them. Something to keep in mind. There's a lot to be learned from people with carefully considered, though apparently rigid, ideas.

Oops again, silly me! You are right of course. The married President of the United States receiving oral sex from a 22-year-old intern in the Oval Office was a very mature affair! And appropriate for only the highly intelligent, of course.

I just can't take your argument seriously, Bay, when it is so completely dripping with condescension.

Anyway, to re-rail this thread: it sucks that someone who is so obviously immature would effectively take the spot of someone who would fit in better in a college atmosphere. I mean, college kids aren't exactly models of maturity, but their immature moments are a good deal different from those of high-schoolers.

idn zamzam. seems like you dont have an opposing argument to Bay's.

Perhaps he had an amazing SAT score and an pretty good GPA? Brown seems to accept decent students with those qualities.

LOL at this guy. Seriously who cares?

that's how the cookie crumbles. Anyways, that 'arrogant humper' will eventually fail in 'the game of life', unless he is a genius of the highest intellectual material who can survive without an effective social life (which I seriously doubt).
