i'm not going to get ap credit for any of the R&C requirements
i will be taking the calc bc and chemistry tests this year, but i'm not really sure if i can get a score required to get credit.
so, assuming that i don't get credit for anything, what classes should i take?
from what i heard, ME students usually take 4 classes their first semester of freshman year: math, chem, engineering 28, and a R&C class
in my case, am i going to be making Math 1A, Chem 1A, Engineering 28, and a R&C class of my choice?
if i happen to get credit for math and chem, what classes will i be taking instead of Math 1A and Chem 1A? i'm not interested in taking any more chemistry classes than necessary because i don't really like the subject.

ME too. i haven't had a chance to look over any normal courses for freshman, so what's engineering 28? standard for all ME freshies?

What are you interested in taking? If you have to take math, 1b is after 1a, 53 and then 54 after that. You could take the honors versions if you wish. Chem 1b comes after chem 1a usually. After this, I think that mechE majors take some other chemistry . . . or maybe you only need 1a. Does the CoE website say?

nono, you only need chem 1a for mechanical engineering.there is a science elective requirement where you can choose between chem 1b (only after taking 1a or equiv), physics 7c (only after taking 7b), or bio 1a (which also has a bunch of prereqs). so if you pass out with ap chem you don't have to take any more chem, which is a nice deal. for math, even if you get a 5 on bc sometimes people still take 1b even if they place out. it's a tough class but a good foundation. if you place out of chem 1a you should probably take physics 7a instead(unless you place out, although even in that case you might want to take it anyway since it has some new material). it's a tough call though being that you're not going to know if you place out until july. don't really know how to advise on tha tpart

if i'm already placed out of chem and bio through ap tests from past years, i should take physics 7a?
as for math, if i'm out of 1a and 1b, is 53 the way to go or is 54 > 53?

53--->54, you can take physics anytime, mmmboy.

also, if i have the option of taking a class at my community college over the summer for credit, is it advisable to take it to get rid of some requirements? (not sure how / what it will apply for yet...but i will look it over later)..

basically, is this common for people to do or would you advise others to do it? (to free me up for other classes, etc...)

if you placed out of chem then you should take physics 7a. if you're not taking math 1a/1b, then you could actually take 53 or 54. They don't have to go in that sequence (53 is multivar calc and 54 is linear algebra, so they're different areas) but a lot of people take 53 first since it's a continuation of calculus. i don't know about the community college thing, but it's always helpful to get requirements out of the way. i don't know any of the rules on number of units/credits that berkeley has regarding community college though.
