Im currently in a CC and so far I’ve gotten straight A’s in every psych class ive taken and they have always been interesting to me. I recently changed my major to Biology though because I want to possibly do something in medicine or research in the future. BUT I’ve been getting B’s and C’s in the bio and chem classes for my major…should I go back to psych even though jobs with a psych degree pay less and might not be as interesting to me? I would much rather study the brain itself than psychology but now I’m worried that I’ve messed up my future with bad grades.
Many school have cognitive science majors which might be of interest to you.
If you’re looking to study THE brain, you could look into neuroscience programs.
If you wanted to go into medicine, you can major in anything. Psychology works just as well as biology as long as you take the prerequisites.
If you just want to do “something” in medicine, biology isn’t necessarily any more helpful than psychology. Most health professionals fields require you to major in/study something specific and get certified to do that. There are things you could do in medicine with either degree; it just kind of depends on what you want to do. You could also do medically-related research with a psychology degree; again, it depends on the kind of research you want to do.
What kinds of jobs do you want to do? Biology majors, on average, make about the same amount of money as psychology majors, both as new grads and with several years of experience.
