Hi
So I’m a high school senior and for my college major, I wanted to do something in STEM or CS field. The problem is that I am in pre calc honors in my senior year. I came from another country in 10th grade and they made me take geometry. I found that classes supppperrr easy, but had no idea whether I could switch from another classes to something else. Next year, I took algebra 2 honors and felt so terrible seeing freshmens in my class, when I was a junior. I soon realized I was way behind in math. So I was wondering would me trying to apply to a college for STEM or CS field affect my chances? Math is obviously important in this field but I am way behind. Please let me know. Thank you!
I didn’t even take math beyond algebra 2 in high school and I am still majoring in stem (now, if it were engineering this may be a problem, but I’m not and I am guessing neither are you). Some high schools dont even offer math beyond pre calc so many majors let you start with calc 1 freshman year. You WILL need AT LEAST one semester of calculus for computer science (it depends on the program at your school) but you should be able to take it during your freshman year where you are mainly doing your gen eds anyway. I really dont think it will affect your chances in admissions, but then again I’m not an adcom!
If you’re in precalculus or precalculus honors, and are getting A’s, you’re fine. That’ll be the situation for many freshmen, if not most, unless you’re aiming for very selective colleges.
