I'm pretty much freaking out.

My first app is due November 1, and I have yet to write the Why __________ portion, the Common App essay and the supplemental essay. I am definitely someone who works best under pressure - I can't do the whole revision after revision thing.

Is there anyone else out there who's as screwed as I am?

I'm just starting my personal statement, and I feel like I should be way more stressed! I think that the Why ____ is pretty easy, and if it's not, you shouldn't be applying there ED :) Have you thought about what you'll write your essays on? I thought A LOT about it, and when it came to write it I think it's easier. It's better to have ideas when you're writing it instead of writing something just to write something, you know? I'd rather write it the week before it's due and have it be about something I've thought about than write it three months before but be something I just jumped to.

oh sorry I dont know if you're applying ED, I just assumed you are haha sorry if you're not!

uhh yeah. actually i shouldn't even be on here i'm so screwed.
(*** am i doing on here?!?!)

but i'm applying to three schools early. Between the three, I have to do ELEVEN frickin essays (includes short answers, but still!) I have 5 done. oh frick.

omg good luck!!

can you recycle any?

I always go on here and tell myself "It's going to help my essay!" but I feel like that's not true.. maybe haha

I have a Why____ portion written that I submitted to my teachers to help them write their recs, but it's definitely not good enough. Good thing I know why I want to go to the school though.

Munchkincakes, you're right, I'm applying EA, so no problem.

I'm having trouble figuring out what I'm going to write about. I think for one I'll write about a campaign I was involved in (not political, a student campaign), but I'm not really sure about the other.

I AM SO CONFUSED. People here keep talking about personal statements. Is that just... the Common App essay or am I totally missing something here?

Yeah it's the common app essay!

My mom keeps telling me to have my teacher read it but I like .... kind of dont want his input on it

is it really bad to submit it without having another adult read it?

I don't plan to get adult input either. My parents would be no help, and my current English teacher lauds whatever is spelled correctly.

I guess it also sort of depends on how confident you are in your writing abilities.

Yeah I'm really confident with my writing abilities, and I want it to be my voice, not a voice that my teacher helped edit. My essay is pretty informal, and I feel like adult input would change that...

yeah i can recycle some, which is why i said I have 5 done. I've really only done 3. I have started 3 more, which is good, but it takes a lot of time to polish them.

i tell myself the same thing. Oh I'll go on CC and see if there are any helpful hints! NOT.

Once I was like, oh I'll go to the bookstore and get a bunch of books about it! Then I'll come home and read them! So I wasted about two hours doing that ... two hours in which I could've written an essay!

haha ^ that pretty much sums up my summer- every time I thought about writing one, I'd pull out a book and read about writing.

For me, I pretty much took the "Why X" essays at their word... my answers were generally straight-forward, so these essays were easier to write. The personal statement/"tell us something about yourself" essays suck, though.

There's still a week left, though, so you should be fine. And as for adult input on essays, there are plenty of adults on here who would be happy to read essays and help you out with them. I've had a few very helpful editors.

^ i felt the exact opposite. okay, thats a lie, i felt like **** about writing both the Why X essay and the Tell us about yourself ****. i just finished the latter earlier, so the other question seems harder. I dont want to suck up to them and iw atn it to be genuine, and thats hard when im applying to colleges in cities i never could afford to visit. Its difficult to form an opinion of a college based off of their pamphlets and website and what 60-some students wrote on student review sites.

but yeah the application process is ****ing stressful now.
