<p>I'm applying to Beijing U, Taipei U (they are both so hard to get into!)</p>

I live in Orange County
GPA: 3.95 (4.87 W)
SAT: 1570 SAT IIs: 800 Wr, 800 Chem, 740 Latin
6 APs: 5 Calc BC (5 AB sub), 5 English Lit and Comp, 5 US History, 5 Latin Vergil, 5 Physic C, 4 Music Theory</p>

<p>ECs: I volunteer at my local Chinese temple, 20 hours a week (after school and weekends)
I'm president of Mu Alpha Theta
I play the piano and play go
I've done some work in the lab involving PCR and finding viruses.</p>

<p>You are in at every single uc. NO idea about the chinese schools. As for US schools, you are a match for most ivy caliber schools.</p>

<p>Ah. Well my dad wants me to go to Beijing University. He's an alum. He said it's a good school and I have to respect his wishes.</p>

<p>Sounds good but you might convince him to let you apply to Stanford, Harvard, Yale, Brown, etc as matches just in case.</p>

<p>I'm not sure what the Chinese schools are looking for, but for U.S. top Ivies, I would advise creating meaning from your extracurriculars in your essay. Your volunteer work at your Chinese Temple is a tremendous time committment. At this point, you need to explain what it has meant to you. Also, you should explain your piano and your go a bit more. </p>

<p>You have the raw materials to get into any school in the country - now you have to advertise yourself. Show achievements and depth of personality. Additionally, try to show breadth of involvement.</p>

<p>Remember, it's the substance that opens the door, it's the style that lets you walk on through like a star!</p>
