I just realized that my AP History teacher who wrote my recomendation is an alumni of UChicago. How should I use this to my advantage? Should I make him write a specific recommendation to UChicago?

Your teacher is an alumnus (male) or alumna (female) of the University. Alumni is plural of alumnus, alumnae is plural of alumna. Alumni has become a generally accepted term for the plural of combined alumni and alumnae populations at coed schools. Since the reference is to “him” he is an alumnus of the school. Having an alumnus write a great letter is always helpful. Whether or not you can “make him” right is another matter.

Did he use online or on paper? If it was on paper, I’m pretty sure he personalized it once he saw you were applying for Chicago, but I’m not sure. I don’t think you can submit supplemental credentials at this point, but ask Grace.

beatfreaks, you are welcome to send a letter of recommendation on your behalf from an alumnus, and it is equally fine if you wish to use this person’s letter as one of your academic subjects recs- otherwise you are welcome to submit his letter as a supplement to your application. If you applied EA, you’re out of luck, as we are no longer accepting application credentials for EA applicants- but if you are applying RD, feel free to send it in. If you have already sent in the letter and do not know if he wrote that he was a Chicago alum, it’s not necessary to resubmit- while it’s nice to get letters from alumni, it’s really not a significant factor in admission.
