*I'm so lost at sea about choosing my major...*

I'm attending to a community college next year, hopefully transferring to a great 4-year college. Right now I'm just very confused about choosing a suitable major.

I've been obsessed with weather stuff since 9; I chase every hurricane and storm. Therefore, I'd like to major in Atmospheric science/Meteorology. But then everybody told me that it is not a good major, that i won't be able to get a job. Moreover, I'm not THAT good at Maths and interested in science subjects . However I'm still a weatherfreak lol

Recently I discovered the Architecture program, which sounds pretty interesting to me. As a small child I loved watching different types of buildings but this habit faded away as I grew up. And I think that Architecture is more suitable for me than Meteorology because I'm really good at geometry ,have a "3D sense", and likes to draw.(I always feel artistic too lol)

So which subject should I choose? Meteorolgy which I'm deeply fascinated or Architecture which fits me?

Always go with your passion.

Also, look into Geology programs. I don’t really know for certain, but I feel like you’d be able to focus on the atmosphere within a Geo major.

Agree with pandem. go with your passion. Don’t worry about whether you can et a job. Around 50% of people are not working in their majors. Also, consider taking business courses while taking meteorology–it always helps. You could always go to grad school for an MBA or architecture.

haha i am just like you, interestingly enough! i wanted meteorology, to work at NOAA or to actually be a meteorologist on tv, and i was also told that i would not get a job. so here i am with architecture. i still took a class in climate and global warming (FAVORITE…spring of my freshman year). weather is still VERY important with architecture. you are designing a building in new orleans…how do you design it to withstand hurricane conditions? and now more relevant…do you focus on the design being “green” or focus more on its survival? im very interested in that, and i would say the same to you: if you really want architecture, major in that, and take a couple of meteorology courses as electives. the knowledge you get comes in handy. plus, when you learn about environmental systems, there is a strong connection between building and weather. i think arch. definitely combines both of my passions :)

but i do find that watching storm stories on the weather channel keeps me from going into studio to do my work earlier…whoops
