Well, there are public school kids that prepare themselves in high school to do well in college, you know.

Yes I'm sure there are. What do you think the pro's and con's of going to public school are?

Pros:[ul]
[]cost-effective
[]large class selection (this actually depends because some have smaller course offerings)
[]adjacent location
[]no concerns about long-distance transportation
[/ul]
Cons:[ul]
[]faculty-to-student ratio not as small as most prep schools
[]no boarding experience
[li]enormous school population (usually)[/li][/ul]

Well, I have a scholarship so I wouldn't have to worry about tuition, and they're all day schools. (I don't like boarding.) My biggest concern about public&private is the education.

To check if there is a substantial difference in education, you should get a course catalog from your local public high school.

Maybe try shadowing for a day?

You'll be prepared. You guys need to RELAX. College(unless you are going to a school like MIT or Caltech where they want to work you to your near death) is going to be sooooo much easier than high school, especially if you work hard now. And please pray no adcom ever see's this thread, because its kind of pathetic if you are panicking over stuff like grades going from A+ to A or getting an A-.

And KissMeKate, you are in grade 8...you will mature and change a lot in the next four years. I was a screw-up then, but now I am doing a lot better.
And if you live in certain districts where there are good high schools (ABC Unified or Fremont Union) the education (and competition) will probably be on par or even better than that one would recieve at a private school. Those schools over-prep people for college.

I have the opportunity to go to a private school, so why should I go for public instead?
