I’ve been attending my community college for 3 semesters now, but this time I haven’t registered yet and I honestly dont know what I’m going to do. My major is general education which I hate because my advising counselor never really helped but instead created more problems. She told me I had to take a biology class because it was a requirement. So I took the class, I hated it and I failed and had to retake it again only to find out that I didn’t even need to take the class in the first place. My gpa went downhill at a 2.2 point average and now I’m stuck. I wanted to start fresh and change my major to engineering, then later transfer to a 4 year institution but I have this fear that mathematics will drag me down even more. I can’t win.
I am an engineer that hated life sciences: Bio, etc. I did well in math and chemistry, physics, etc. Where do you stand wrt to math? Have you taken Calc? How did you do? You usually need to like math and do well in it to succeed in engineering. I am not sure you can start “fresh” especially if you need FA (do you?) but if finances work, you can certainly change majors.
Look for direct transfer programs from CC to 4 year school. I happen to believe that CC are great places to start, save money, and get real teachers (not T.A.s or professors who can’t teach) however, I think there is a myth that you can just go ahead and take your gen. ed. requirements because it all depends where you want to transfer to. Every school is so different that you may end up taking CC classes that you don’t truly need. Because of this, and for the ease of transferring I think the best option is to enroll in a CC program/major that has direct transfer/admission to a four year school you would be happy with. Talk to an advisor and try to get on track. Good luck!
