I agree with rocafelton regarding possibilities. Anyways, being trilingual is an asset, unless you're one of those stupid people who say they can speak a language while knowing just a few expression (in that sense, I'd speak Korean, spanish, english, french, japanese, write chinese). But if you got proficiency diplomas on all three of your languages (for example, a DELE superior level diploma for spanish, Toefl (for internationals), language SAT II's, language AP's)

Thanks a lot. Regarding Kowloon's post, I speak/read/write in 3 languages (arabic, english, french)

Anyway, my top choice is Georgetown, I really hope I can get in! After that would be U Penn, Boston U, Cornell, NYU (In order)

wow you're one of the most interesting people i've ever seen on this site! In everywhere!!!!!!!!!

Thanks, I guess :) I do have quite an interesting history.

Very interesting thread. Not sure I agree regarding Penn, Cornell, Dartmouth or BU though. As to language proficiency, at that level, I have to agree that its not uncommon to have more than one or two languages beyond English to your credit. I have proficiency in 3 european, 2 asian and 2 north american languages, and don't think its such a big deal so as to make it the centerpiece of my applications. I sense there is a bigger compelling story to be told, which will make you unique, and that's what will get you in. I mean, under $20k in income, yet you are proficient in arabic writing and have contacts in LA and DC?

BTW - Nursing at Penn? Is that because you really want to be a nurse, or just because you have a better shot at Penn if you apply to nursing?

Yes, I would want to be a nurse. hence my hospital volunteering.

However, I don't see how I wouldn't be accepted to BU? I have above average GPA and scores.

I think BU is not far behind the Ivys in terms of being selective.

Why only Penn and GTown for nursing if that's your interest? For example, NYU and Columbia have excellent nursing programs, as does Maryland.

I wanted to do Biology at NYU, who knows..maybe nursing as well.
I think you are talking about Boston College...Boston Universities acceptance rate is 58% opposed to Ivies...10-20%.

I would love to go to Columbia, but I really think it's way too out of my reach.

Maybe, but as to BU, note that 89% of those admitted were top 25% or higher and 60% had a GPA of 3.5 or above. Further, African Americans made up only 2% of the entering class. I don't think those facts considered together favor your application, absent a very compelling story - which it seems you can put together.

As to Columbia, I would say go for it - because I think a very well-crafted essay with the right recommendations could very well tip the scales in your favor. Moreover, I think you would find Columbia and NYC much more to your liking than BU and Boston.

Hmm...58% opposed to 10% are much different. BU is not as selective as you make it seem. I might just apply to both than.

Any other thoughts?
