I'm thinking of paying housing deposit in February, but does that sound too late?

I was accepted on ED I. I recently, as in this week, just paid my enrollment deposit that’s due by the 15th. Sadly, I couldn’t pay my housing deposit at the time. I’ve done some calculations and have figured out that I can get my housing deposit in two weeks from now, on the 27th at the earliest. If not then the first week of February around Friday the 3rd or early the next week after it. I talked to a person from Undergraduate Admissions last week and they said that the enrollment deposit is what was due by the 15th. However, they then said that although I didn’t need to pay the housing deposit by then, housing is on a first come first serve basis. I don’t know why but I feel as if February is somewhat late to be submitting it when I got accepted on ED. Does anyone else share the same opinion, or am I just stressing out too much over it?

Thanks for the help!

Talk to the admissions people and specifically ask them for an extension so they don’t think you are a declared commute or trying to get out of your Early Decision. They will almost always wavier the deadline to anytime until the ED2 decision deadline. However, housing placement is on a first come first serve basis. So everyone that submits their deposit before you will get to choose their preferred dorm/room. You will probably be one of the last of the ED kids to pick ssince your deposit is after the deadline but you will still have priority over RD and perhaps ED2 people (depending on the date their deposits start coming in.)

Thanks. I’ll make sure to call them on Monday, or Tuesday if the office is closed. I had a feeling I’d be at the bottom of ED I when it comes to housing due to submitting my deposit so late, so I’ll just have to make sure to send in the deposit before ED II starts theirs. I’ve already got the confirmation email for the enrollment deposit, so glad that’s taken care of.

I don’t see how February can be considered late in the first-come first-served line if the entire RD class doesn’t even get admissions decisions until April. You’ll still be ahead of a majority of the entering class. I’m sure Housing would love to have your money sooner rather than later, but there’s no need to worry about this.
