My daughter was concerned because someone at her school said housing deposits for Pitt were due on May 1st. Is this a separate payment from the $300 deposit (enrollment fee) or is this covered in the same payment? If we have to make a housing deposit, where is this done on the web page?

The housing deposit is separate from the enrollment deposit. You get housing info packet once you make your enrollment deposit. The housing packet will have a due date for your housing deposit. Do not miss this date especially for the housing guarantee. I don’t think you can make a housing deposit until after you send in your enrollment deposit. The enrollment deposit is non-refundable.

Thank you so much, MTnest! She is still debating between Pitt and JMU. I just want to make sure she does not miss any important deadlines. I wish she would just decide already…I am giving her a deadline of April 16th!

Just to clarify, if you send in the enrollment deposit somewhat later (like, around now probably), it sounds like the housing deadline will be later than May 1st to compensate, since it takes some time to get that info by mail. I was personally confused/stressed about that which is why I bring it up xD

Still better for her to enroll early though if she wants to look for a roommate on Facebook or ■■■■■■■■ instead of going Random :)

Someone is saying that submitting it after May 1st still guarantees housing if its within your personal deadline, but choice of housing is in the lottery system after that point. Not sure if that’s true or not, something to consider.

I have heard that anything in after May 1 is NOT guarenteed housing for following years. Further, when you go online and submit your housing deposit (which is an additional $325) you fill out a little survey…maybe 5 or 6 questions… and select your preferences. Everyone who submits a deposit before May 1 has the same chances to get a preference because they do not start to look at housing until that deadline. Basically everyone after that point just “fills in the empty spots” if you will. If your D is picky about where she wants to live, the sooner the better for Pitt!
