So i'm currently a senior in high school about to start my last semester before I go off to college. I cant decide which major I want to pursue and i'm freaking out. Here are my 2 choices: engineering (most likely mechanical) or criminal justice (FBI agent). I am definitely more interested in criminal justice but I fear it wont make me a lot of money. In other words, engineering pays more than criminal justice, but criminal justice is more interesting to me. I feel like if I take the criminal justice route I wont be using all of my capabilities (academics), therefor wasting my potential to make more money. Im definitely smart enough to do engineering but I fear it doesn't interest me enough to do for the rest of my life. So my decision is basically, money vs interest.

The odds of you becoming an FBI agent are slim to none, that’s the plain truth. And if you say “That’s okay, I’ll be a normal cop instead!” That’s fine, but why the heck would you waste 4 years of tuition on a CJ degree when you can just go to the police academy?

Engineering is the way to go, but if you’re not interested (why’d you even pick it then?) in it, you’re simply not going to survive it. I’d look into more majors… You have to have more interests! If you’re only about money, engineering isn’t the way to go: Finance is.

My dad actually worked for the FBI for quite a while, and I’m going to be truthful and tell you that if you want to an “FBI agent”, majoring in criminal justice is NOT going to do it. I’m not entirely sure what your interest lies, specifically in the field of criminal justice or the want to be an FBI agent? If it’s the the former, then do criminal justice, money falls in somewhere later (just do the best that you can do), if you just want to be an FBI agent, major in a hard science.

If you’re primarily concerned with money, engineering is the way to go, but it’s never a good idea to make decisions around money.

Thanks guys, the engineering mainly comes from my dad being very successful in that field. I just want to find a way that I can make a lot of money and love what I do! But isn’t that what everyone wants?
