I recently consulted with my school director
He recommended me three schools : Northwestern, Johns Hopkins, and Brown
Well, I was not interested in NW so I just eliminated it from my list and talked about Johns Hopkins and Brown.
He just told me that because our school students have never been accepted by Brown in ED so far, my chance to enter Brown is not guaranteed even though the odds it not zero.
Yeah, I think that it worthes to give a shot, but the chance for JH is much bigger than that for Brown!

If I do not get admission from Brown, it would become harder for me to compete with much more students in regular. But I’m not that into Johns Hopkins…

Should I take the risk or just apply to the Johns Hopkins?

School history does not have a significant influence on where you get in, if any. My high school hadn’t had anyone go to Brown for over a decade, and we average one Ivy League accepted student per year, and I still got in. If you like Brown, apply there.
Have you visited campus?

Do not worry about school history, it means nothing except trends. If you think you have a chance, apply. If you can spare the application fee, it is worth spending. A life of “what ifs” would not be fun.

Why is this a dilemma? Please explain. If you like Brown, why not apply for schools more like Brown?

For schools with as low admit rate as Brown, you can never be assured a spot, no matter how fantastic your credientials. JHU is also an excellent school and hard to gain admittance to.

Yeah I’ve visited Brown last year… I truly loved it! One of the undergraduate students allow me to look around his laboratory. That was cool

@Spike312 Thank you for both criticism and encouragement LOL Dilemma was a simple mistake … But for article things I have no excuse actually I’m an international student and those easiest, trivial grammar things are still hard for me… But I’m currently working on it:)

Thanx! I also do not want to regret for my college decision…

@BrownParent

Well this is a dilemma for me since Brown is risky but attractive while Johns Hopkins is relatively easy but not quite attractive for me. I’m not talking that Johns Hopkins is easier to get in than Brown… Just my director told me that the extracurriculars and all other activites I’ve done match well with JH and that I have a good chance for JH, so I ended up to think that JH is relatively easy for me. I’m currently considering Northwestern, Amherst, Duke, Dartmouth. But I may eliminate Amherst since I’m not a good writer…

Thanx I’m gonna talk with my director again on Thursday… I hope my predicted SAT score to increase my chance to get into Brown! Quite nervous:(

School history does not matter. I’m the first one from my high school to get admitted into Brown.

I say apply to Brown but also to JH as a backup. Also, you should research other schools similar to Brown. For example, if you like the small population and liberal atmosphere, you could also consider Carleton College.

I would like to point out that you called JHU “easy.”
By no stretch of the mind is JHU “easy” to get into, for anyone.
When I applied ED last year, I was deferred, then waitlisted, and then finally accepted.
I speak four languages, got a 2400 on my SAT, maintained a 3.98 unweighted GPA, was the EIC of my school’s yearbook, and captained the mock trial team.

It really just depends on what they’re looking for that particular year.
