I'm Very Very Curious.. Please Clarify..

I honestly do not know why I got rejected, I was recommended by the chair of applied physics at Rutgers university, I had about 5 leadership positions, strong extra curricular activities... Regional placement and awards in physics.. faculty level research.. 2 research supplements.. 5/400.. 800M580CR690W.. all 5's on ap exams.. great SAT II scores..
?essays? (apparently they sucked since i didnt get in).. the interview went amazing, he was extremeley impressed..
strongly ranked tennis player (captain and 1st singels of my team) ..

everyone said I was going to have a shot.. atleast a defferal!

but my concern is this: I am classified as an international applicant.. is this a reason why I was rejected?!

If you asked for aid...yes.

the little box which said, are you applying for need-based aid??

Perhaps the adcomms read about your little bacchanalia while you visited Chicago and then posted about...

that makes me feel much better, ty countingdown..

can someone please answer my question? Were my chances brought down becuse I was an international applicant..?

yea they were as an answer to your question

honestly best thing to do now is to forget chicago and send out your regular apps ...try to recover quickly.

physicsphun, CountingDown is serious. Chicago adcoms DO read this board, and you've certainly posted enough information that when they read your application they would've remembered who you were...and your exploits when you visited.

and what does that have to do with my admission decison; i am the person who i am, and don't even try to hide that most of the people who got admitted never did that stuff, if not even worse.

Eh... no, I don't think so. Decisions should have nothing to do with what has been posted here. Even if what you posted did have an effect, I don't see why it would have gotten you rejected...

Yes, physicsphun, it was probably because you applied as an international applicant, plain and simple, especially if you applied for financial aid. It's difficult enough getting in as an international applicant, but insanely difficult to get in as an international applicant applying for financial aid.

Ok, I am really feeling like crap right now; despite me being a male athlete, not going to lie, I feel like bawling.. but I wont, and I am not..

What sucks is that I basically have no shot at ANY of the colleges in United States because of my status; my cheapest and safest choice is Rutgers; whose tuition is doulbed for me..
Most people with my legal status go to a community college.. and I refuse.
It's mighty painful to see people with equal potential getting admitted while one is solely rejected because of one's status..

idk, I'm not even gong to apply RD to other selective colelges..

Thanks again phuriku for answering my questions bud..

You're absolutely correct... it's completely unfair.

I have a friend who was ranked the top 5 in Canadia in mathematics, and the only school (out of like, 10 that he applied to) that he got into was Dartmouth, which isn't a bad school, but certainly not what he was looking for in terms of math and physics. He should've definitely gotten into the other schools he applied to. Life's unfair, and I'm really sorry it has to be that way.

You're a great applicant, physicsphun1.

You will get into other great schools. Don't lose hope! You have a lot going for you, clearly, and you will do great at whatever excellent school you end up at.

Good luck! Keep up your optimism.

Don't knock Community Colleges. Some have excellent Honors Programs that almost guarantee entry into a top school after 2 years. Not easy to get in , but then again, nothing is.

physicsphun1,

I am very sorry to hear your result - the competition for financial aid for internationals is indeed very fierce, and I'm pretty sure that's the problem. Its hard to move on - but you will do so soon and start to feel like yourself again. You hear about it over and over on this forum - that these things have a way of working out. Its hard to believe - but they do. Over the weekend - see a movie and vent to your friends. If your list is solid (and all of you internationals have to be very careful of this) things are going to look a lot better come spring.
