I'm wondering why too many credits before enrolling in UC can not transfer to some uc campus??

from a Chinese university

will complete two years coursework in my university and plan to transfer to UC( UCSD UCB UCLA)

two simple questions here:

  1. According to my university plan, I will have 100 plus credits (semester) in first two years before enrolling in UC. But when I was filling to the UC applications, some of campuses such as UCSD,UCLA are closed to my level just because I have too many credits before enrollment. Here is the question: though I will complete those credits, but maybe there are less can be UC transferable credits for differences in US & China educational systems, why not transfer? Does it work if I send emails to argue for that? Because UCLA is one of my dream school.
  2. based on the last question, I'm wondering if too many completed credits before enrollment can possibly lowered the chance of being admitted into UCB?

thanks a lot!!!

You need to complete a certain number of units at the UC and if they calculate your units through their formula as over what they will accept to accommodate the units you need to take at the UC, you won’t get in. It’s as simple as that.

Just apply. The app unit count won’t be accurate. The majority of courses internationally aren’t transferable. You’ll be ok or you won’t. You’ll find out soon enough.

thanks to your reply. though i am still a little bit confused. anyway, i ran to this:
So I ran into this:

How many college/university units do you plan to complete before you enroll at UC?

Fewer than 60 semester/90 quarter units (sophomore transfer)
60–89 semester/90–134 quarter units (junior transfer)
90 semester/135 quarter units or more (senior transfer)

As I mentioned before, I want to transfer as a junior or even a sophomore. Whatever. But i will indeed have 100 more semester credits most of which as you mentioned are not transferable maybe. If I choose senior transfer, UCLA and SD will close to my level. So what if I choose junior transfer? Because most of my credits may not be transferable.

thanks again for your time!

Just pick junior and then write in additional comments you were told most int’l courses aren’t transferable.

Or you could check with one of the UC campuses and ask to make an appointment for the evaluation of your International transcripts so you will know for sure what is, if any courses are transferable.

@Gumbymom made a good suggestion.

thank you for your suggestion!

thanks a lot!!
