for those who came to america from a thirld world country, what has the experience been like for you? how did you adjust to the american way of life? how long have you been living here? how much did your parents sacrifice, and how have you set out accomplishing your goals?

Came to US 3 years back.
-had no problems as I had visited America since I was like 8.
-Parents sacrificed more back in the country than here. Resources avaliable here are not avaliable there.
-heh american way of life was no problem. I retained my foreign flavor and the ladies love it ;). Only problem was the cold. I hate the cold. And its 20 degree with 2 degree windchill here :(.
-pretty much exactly the same way i attained my goals back then. Went step by step learning and using every resource avaliable to me. Being in America helped me because some of the work I pursue could not be as easily accomplished in a third world country.

It was a huge sign of relief when my parents made it. It is still really hard to come from a different, less oppurtunistic country. My uncle can't even come and he has his M.D and is practicing medicine in several different countries. My dad couldn't get his citizenship until 2 years ago, and he came 15 years ago. My mom hasn't even gotten hers yet. It took him 10 years to be able to get a license. Now we are a well-to-do family, living in a rural town, with good pay, and reasonable goals. So many immigrants succeed cuz they know how life is back at home, and they know they have to work as hard as they can to make it. We all speak English well, and actually, I've forgotten some of my native language. =( My dad told me that right before he left to America, he saw 2 teenagers looking for food in a dumpster and they were sniffing some glue they found to keep them mentally going. And he said that coulda been me. It's been a huge change since then.
