Imperial College vs. University of Edinburgh

Hello!

I have been accepted to both Imperial College London and the University of Edinburgh for an MSc in Entrepreneurship and Innovation.

I do not have much experience with either school as I completed my undergraduate in the States. I have visited both London and Edinburgh, and do enjoy Edinburgh a lot more as a city. Not only is it less expensive, but it is also less bustling and more nature oriented which better suits my lifestyle.

If anyone has any insight to either of these universities and their respective programs I would love to hear what you have to say. Imperial College’s business school seems to be more prestigious than Edinburgh’s, but I have no experience with either.

I am looking to attend in the fall and am particularly interested in creating a start-up with potential people in my course. I have read that although there is a large start-up culture in both London and Edinburgh, from Imperial’s program, only 9% move on to actually creating their own business, with the majority using it as a stepping-stone for consulting work, something that I am not particularly interested in. Unfortunately, have not been able to find these statistics for the University of Edinburgh.

It might help to go back to the first, most basic question: which course looks more interesting to you? Even between two programs with the same name the actual modules can be very different.

Imperial outranks Edi, but imo not by enough to outweigh the fit of the program.

Imperial is more prestigious than Edinburgh.

If you focus is to have a start-up, it is better to be in London.

On the other hand, studying in Edinburgh might save you some money which can go towards your start-up capital.

Edinburgh and the surrounding area has a thriving startup culture. IT is frequently ranked at the best place in the UK to start a company.
