I took the april 2018 act, and I just got back my scores for the multiple choice:
English 36
Math 33
Reading 36
Science 30
-overall 34
However, I am much more focused on science and math and consider those my stronger subjects. Will STEM focused colleges look down on me for the lower scores in those sections? [note: my highest practice test scores for them were science 36 and math 35, I’d never gotten english and reading 36’s though]
@bella246 - Was this your first attempt at the real test? If so, I’d recommend taking it again. Clearly you’re capable of achieving a 35 or even a 36.
But to your specific question, your math sub score might be viewed a little negatively by competitive STEM schools. ACT Science is more reading than science, so I doubt a low score there is much of a red flag. Still, since it underrepresents your potential, I believe a do over many serve you well.
My STEM daughter did slightly better on Reading/English too. We were told that may have been a good thing as it showed more well roundedness. Who knows! She got into her top choice which was a STEM focused engineering program and into their Honors College. I will agree with the above poster that if this was your first sitting, take it again and you will probably super score to a 35/36.
