The internship my D (EMAC/2010) was able to get turned out to be one of the most important things she did for post grad employment success. She searched and applied quite aggressively and it paid off. When checking into the internship that she was eventually successful with, she was given the options of a phone interview or an interview in person. She took a train from Rensselaer to Manhattan and interviewed in person.
This internship was done between her Jr. and Sr. years. After graduation, she took a job through a temp agency at a large corporation near our home town but continued to apply to the companies she wanted to work for and after a few months, was successful with the company she had interned with.
It should be noted that the job/internship fairs the college held had very little to offer for EMAC students so they need to do their own independent leg work.
This was an unpaid 2 month internship in Manhattan and by networking with her RPI friends, she was able to find a NYC apartment to sublet for the 2 months of her internship.
