Worried about my chances given poor class rank 25/203... I saw on the website 51% or something are in the top 2% (yikes!) what are my chances given this....

SAT: 800 Verbal, 640 Math, 720 Writing - 2160, 1440
GPA: 3.76 UW, 4.1 W - upward trend and currently a 3.95 UW for senior year with 4 of those being AP - hopefully I keep this up
Rigor - 5 AP's which is most rigorous at my school and 4 years of language, 4 business, the rest honors (I am missing calculus senior year since I'm taking prob stat instead.

Leadership: Cross Country Captain
Track and Field Captain
President of Class for Freshman year
Treasurer of Business Professionals of America (BPA)

Accomplishments: won at States and placed 9th out of 24 at National's for "BPA" small business management team

Volunteer: local community hospital - around 50 hours
Other volunteering: soccer for the handicap TOPPS, road clean-ups, beach clean-ups, dune grass planting, et cetera around 75 hours total

Anyway I feel like I don't have much of a shot because ND is very class rank focused (at least that's my perception). I really like the Catholic atmosphere though as well as the awesome academics, great sports, and overall beautiful campus so thinking I will apply anyway come Dec 31st

I’m thinking about applying to Mendoza by the way… does that make it harder?

Class rank alone will not keep you out assuming that your other stats are stellar, especially if you attend a very competitive high school. Your stats are good, but none are stellar. Maybe increase volunteer work or retake your SAT. Not to be a downer, but I’ve met lots of fellow freshmen with 2300 SAT/35 ACT scores, 500 hours of volunteer work, cool research projects, etc. You need at least one “hook” that makes you stand out in a crowd of outstanding applicants. Look for that and use it in your essays, which are really read! Maybe the business classes you took (those sound different) and how you used that in successfully in BPA competitions. Good luck.

Rank - You could be alright if the school is top notch, and if they re-rank in January (assuming you are getting great scores this year). Benet Academy outside Chicago had 43 accepted last year (class size 330 or so). I’m sure some of them were ranked 50-something or lower. Of course this is a special case; ND loves that school (probably to the detriment of many other schools).

Mendoza - you don’t apply to any specific school at ND. You apply to ND.

They don’t re-rank in January I don’t think, which is really a downer because I’m probably pulling top-grades for my entire class right now. Also, my school is one of the top-ranked for my state according to the state of Delaware itself, but no USNWR type of ranking - I think we were ranked 3 years ago in that though haha.
