Are EC's really that important that lots of threads are devoted to people's activities and all? I mean it should be about showing what you love, not a list of things you've participated in or won. From what I've read it should only really matter for elite colleges. Would places like Michigan,UVA, UNC, etc. be considered 'elite'? Or would high SAT's and around a 3.85 GPA with most rigorous be convincing enough? My EC's aren't focused on specific things. I am committed to things like I play an instrument for 13 yrs, and performed during church sometimes, i have a few hundred hours of CS, some leadership, and in general my EC's are a little scattered- some depth but in several areas, and somewhat weak.
But would that be that important to most colleges like the ones I mentioned to the point where it takes away from my stats & essay or is that only for colleges like ivies?

Define ‘high SAT.’

Michigan, UVA, and UNC are all very competitive schools and do consider ECs, yes. If ECs were subpar you would want to be very strong–compared to the admitted pool–in SAT, GPA, essays, recs, etc. to compensate for that.

That said your ECs sound fine for these schools, although you’re being a little vague here.

I haven’t taken the SAT yet so for the sake of this example I am assuming I will get a decent score- 2100-2200’s.
As for EC’s, here’s what I see as what it will look like:

Hobbies/personal:
Piano, 13 yrs, 11yrs lessons, and performing during church
Seattle Mariners correspondent, isportsweb.com-basically just covering the team for the site, 3 yrs
Started my own website for articles on seattle sports and fantasy football- 4yrs
(hopefully they will see my personal passion for sports writing)

Sports:
nothing much here, I’m not a competitive athlete and I found that out freshman year:
Football- freshman yr
Track & Field- freshman yr

Volunteer:
300+ total hours:
200+ UW Medical Center intern/volunteer (escort)
50+ Library Page
(key club)

Clubs:
Fitness/Workout Club, 3 yrs- treasurer
Key Club, 3 yrs- hopefully officer next year
Astronomy Club- 4 yrs, again hopeful officer
Math Club- 3 yrs
National Honors Society (club?)- 2 yrs

Awards:
Volunteer Service Commendment award
DECA- 4th regional, hope to add to this list…
AP Scholar (hope for additional distinction/honor)

I hope to land an internship and will talk to my counselor about that. If I’m not able to I’ll get a summer/part time job if possible.
I expect to do some summer programs at universities- will do a Business week one, hopefully one at U of Maryland or something!

nothing really outstanding. I hope it doesn’t look like a laundry list- I don’t do anything just for the sake of putting it on the application. this is what I can reasonably expect myself to accomplish, maybe I will do even more. I am contemplating starting a fantasy football club Opinions?

You’re more than fine.

Nothing really stands out. It seems to be like EVERYONE has been making websites recently, in an attempt for a college app boost or whatnot. Not saying you are, but it’s kind of standard IMO.

Other than that, you look fine. Do you go to Bothell or Woodinville?

I go to newport
