What is the importance of the optional supplements in admission? Would it be ok to just leave them blank?
Anyone?
They are 250 word max. Not a huge time sync. I think I just typed sixteen words.
@DuchessIt I already wrote the essays I was just wondering if they would actually improve my application or just be a hindrance. They are average essays so I wasn’t sure if it was worth submitting them.
I would focus on answering the questions they ask succinctly but giving a glimpse of who you are and what matters to you. For example, on the diversity question my son didn’t write a generic answer about embracing all cultures. He picked a culture relevant to.his language studies and experience and answered the question accordingly.
Don’t ever leave optional essays blank
Your personal statements stand in for an in-person interview. Imagine that an Admissions Dean is asking you that question, and trying to get a feel for who you are- You don’t have to come off as the next Hermione Granger, just make sure what you write represents you in the best possible light.
I’m a first semester Freshman here at State and those optional essays are the reason I was accepted to this school RD, considering my gpa and test scores were not reflective of me as a student. It gives the admissions officers the chance to get to know you- take the opportunity regardless of if they’re not required.
