Importance of prestigious professors for LORs

I always hear the emphasize on getting LORs from prestigious professors, but what if you go to an average school with no "prestigious professors?" The one's in my engineering department may have came from top 10 school and have publications, but I don't consider that well distinguished. Does the professor's fame really have an impact on LORs?

A selective professor is more important than a famous professor I’d say. The professor writing my LOR says that there’s this guy he *always *gets LORs from. He says he throws his letters away before he even reads them.

If a professor is always sending letters to a school for his/her students, they lose credibility, famous or not.

Only if the letters all sound the same. If the letters reflect every student as an individual, then a “frequent recommender” can actually be a valuable resource because he can provide comparisons between applicants (even if not done explicitly).
