Hey guys. I got a 690 on the Spanish and 630 on the World History SAT II… are those mediocre scores going to totally ruin my chances? Any insight on how much Penn weighs the SAT IIs?

People say that the SATIIs have weight but I did terribly on 2 out of 3 of mine and got in ED so I think a lot more goes into it. If you did well in your world history class then a 630 would be fine, I think.

They're something else to discriminate applicants between.

Your scores are good enough so that they won't kill you.

I got a 660 on Math IIC (my highest of three chances) and I'm still applying. SATs can't mean everything, since there are bad test takers. I mean, once I knew how to take the SAT I my score when up 250 pts. I didn't learn the material or anything.
I'm digressing...

Anyway, a 690 on spanish is not bad at all. Unless you are a native speaker. But hey, I've known native speakers to get lower than nonnative speakers. And world history? I have no idea. I would think that would be a decent score for any history test.

Here's a question: Penn only requires 2 SATIIs, right? Is Math one of them? Will they consider it since I did take three and sent them all in?

But back to your question, I think GPA/rank is the biggest factor of all.

hey peachy, we're applying for the same program. i think they look at top highest. but for engineering a math and a science are recommended so I think theyre going to put weight on it.

yeah. I was thinking of not applying to engineering with that score, or not thinking of engineering ever, but there's nothing in SAS that appeals to me as equally, so hopefully it won't all kill me.

I have a 690 in Chemistry. On that test I honestly thought I had a 750+. I guess it's still a decent score.
So did you send in a portfolio?

Nope, I'm not a native Spanish speaker but I noted on my application that I can communicate in it effectively and understand quite well since I am in AP Spanish.. mehh.. so you still think a 690 is fine? And World History was just beastly.. lol

no. lol. no time. i didnt even finish my financial aid form yet. no idea how to do it did you?

Well your percentile is somewhere above 50%, and considering that you're competing against native speakers, I think that's good.

yea i agree 690 for a nonnative is pretty darn good. I would be more worried about WH. Do you have any other SAT IIs?

I can't believe the financial aid form is due tomorrow... I never knew thaat!! ahh.. so what's due in February then?

I haven't started my finaid form yet...I figure my mother will do it sometime today. And a portfolio? pssshhht. I might do what I did for Princeton arts supplement and start something at 11:00 tonight and finish it in an hour...something crappy, but at least something. Haha. I've never even taken an art class (no opportunity), so I can't just pull things out of my imaginary sketch book, dammit. Well, good luck anyway! lol

dont you need to send in the portfolio in some sort of like a binder or something? I didnt see a space where you were able to upload stuff? 11 isnt that great of an idea. post officees arent open tomorrow.
