Importance of subject tests?

So, at my school it's quite difficult to get into an ap science class before senior year. I hear for top engineering schools it's a requirement to have subject tests even if the university says they aren't required. I could take the math level 2 in October (if they are offered, I don't know the schedule). Is it that big of a deal? Will it help the app that much? I will be taking AP physics next year as a senior but I would definitely need to have subject tests done earlier rather than around the time of AP tests.

They are helpful to show the adcom that you are skilled in mathematics and you will do well in their engineering department. Of course, this differs by the rigor and selectivity of the school, however a math level 2 subject test, if you do well, will definitely be a plus on your application.

SAT subject tests are more important for admissions purposes than AP tests. So if you have the time, go for it man. There’s nothing to lose. They may not be required, but they may be highly recommended or as a requirement for an engineering major. SAT math 2 does not require a huge knowlege of mathematics, but basic math with strategies and practice (and some trig as well)

@shawnspencer So, I guess I’ll probably take it then. Would you say that a science test is a lot less important? I’m not gonna apply to any Ivy League but I still might apply to some top 50 schools and it seems like a lot of them recommend more than 1. Thank you very much’
