Importance of Undergrad Major on PhD admissions

I'm entertaining the idea of pursuing a doctorate degree in political science or a related field after undergraduate school. Given that, I must decide from two majors that most interest me: an interdisciplinary one; ethics, politics and economics; and the other the traditional, focused political science major.

Would the Ethics, politics and economics major be any liability at all for top political science PhD programs for a student coming straight out of undergrad? It makes logical sense that a traditional political science major would allow for more specialized research in the field that would be helpful in graduate studies.

Thanks!

No, as long as you take sufficient political science classes to prepare you for the programs in which you are interested. It may even be an asset, if you can explain how the interdisciplinary major boosts your ability to study whatever you’re interested in political science.
