I don't have any paid work experience on my resume besides a little babysitting, but I do have nearly 100 hours of community service over the past few years. Does volunteer work make up for paid work experience?

I’m not sure, but it’s definitely recommended that you try to get paid experience. Personally, I could not have been happier with my job at H-E-B because it’s really the best option I have.

No EC is ‘better’ than another EC. Volunteer work doesn’t ‘make up for’ not having a job, just as having a job doesn’t ‘make up for’ not playing defense on the football team or the oboe. Be who you are. It IS good enough. Most schools just want to know what you do with your free time so they get some insight into who you are and what you care about, and that you will be a contributing member of the school community.
