Hi, I recently received information on the "Pitt Prestige Application". After completing it, it asked me save a .pdf file of the app to give to my guidance counselor. After reviewing it, looked at the following: "I waive my right to review or access letters and statements of recommendation on my behalf"; the student signature was there, but neither the "yes" nor "no" box was checked and I don't remember them ever asking me about that. Is this an issue? I did, however, check the "yes" box for the same question of my school's naviance.

If anyone knows about this, please let me know.

According to United States Legislation, you have the right to view the recommendations if you truly wish to do so. Thus, they give you both options. It does not matter either way though I always have selected that I waive my right, because I don’t want to be “that guy” and I can always just ask my teachers for a copy if I’m really interested

The big “concern” for not waiving that right is that schools will think that you look at your letter, demand the teacher write something better, or collaborate with the teacher to write a ridiculously flowery LOR. The entire LOR process should be without your input-- it’s how a teacher perceives you to be, and you should already know that (considering you asked them to write it).

Thanks, I understand–but does anyone know about my specific issue? When filling out the application, I don’t remember having to check anything. However, the notice showed up on the print-out version. Is this normal for anyone who has filled out the “Pitt Prestige Application”?
