okay, so there are some RIDICULOUS things these students have done for college, but what I don't really get is, how do colleges know if their applicants are complete bs and that they haven't made up many of thier grand achievements? I mean, it's just so easy to say that you were the president of, say, key club at your school, and colleges will have no idea whether you made it up!!!! So does this mean that every college looks at these ecs with a grain of salt, or are they completely duped by the potential liars of ecs? It is of my humblest opinion that these ethical issues are very important.... PLEASE REPLY!!!!!!

I think they really don't know, but if they find out you are lying, they can revoke your admission.

They don't. Although if they have any doubts they'll contact your school and ask. And sometimes you get those situations where two people from the same school claim to be the president of the same club.... it's probably pretty easy to figure out who is telling the truth.

they have no clue...

but only a very verysmall fraction of applicants lie about thir ecs because most applicants are moral, and also scared about the very small percentage that their list will be checked by the college with their high school

yeah, and if you're considering lying on your app, please don't.
