Important Transfer Question

Currently a freshman who has applied to four schools. I have heard back from two and got into both, however one of the colleges (Villanova) requires that the registration deposit be postmarked no later than two weeks after the official date on the acceptance letter. I am still waiting to hear back from two other schools, which will most likely be in the first two weeks of May.

What should/can I do here? What would happen if I paid the deposit fee for Villanova, then got accepted to my top school in May and paid that deposit as well? Would I just lose money, or would I lose both acceptances?

Your deposit is not binding, I believe, but if you choose to attend a different school, it will probably not be refunded.

You could call Nova and ask for an extension. They may not give you one but it wouldn’t hurt to ask.

Call the others that haven’t informed you and tell them you have another deadline looming. If they want you (and your 4 years of tuition), they need to let you know ASAP. You have leverage too, you know.

Your deposit ensures a transfer space at Villanova; if you opt to attend elsewhere, the deposit is forfeited. Quite simply, that’s the way it generally works with college deposits.
