Today I received a letter from UNC Chapel Hill that said I was a finalist in a merit-based scholarship competition. Something like 135 people out of their 9700 EA applicants. Its date is 12/21. And, a few days ago, I got a likely letter from them. There is a day in February where finalists are supposed to come and particpate in a discussion. However, I live in Oregon. Has anyone else gotten this letter? Does anyone know WHAT scholarships this interview thing is for and how big they are? And how important is it that I go....considering that most of their finalists would be in-state?

Why don't you wait until after the new year and call the school and ask them? Also you may want to search their website for information.

Is this a Robertson? There is a February meeting of semi-finalists. This is one of the best scholarships in the United States. You are very, very fortunate if it is. Many students turn down ivy league schools for a Robertson.

nlt51- sorry I just saw this thread, but I posted a reply about the scholarship in the other thread. but do you think the 135 is a mix of in and out of state? just wondering...hopefully we can get some answers sometime about all this!

If you are a semifinalist for the Robertson, then you will have to schedule a phone interview with a staff member of the Robertson Scholars Program. That is the next step after you notified that you are indeed a semifinalist for the Robertson Scholarship. Keep in mind that UNC offers a variety of merit based, financial aid scholarships.
