Hello, I am prospective transfer student for the Fall of 07. Before telling you about my problem, I'll give you some background on myself:

I am an URM student in the 4th semester of CC outside of Georgia. I will complete 4 semesters/62 units by the summer.

I currently have a cumulative GPA of 3.935 and hope to get a 4.0 in my 4th year, raising it to a 3.95 cumulative GPA for 2 years with the hardest curriculum available.

I have some unique EC's, talents and travel experiences. (From basketball player in high school, to volunteer during hurricane Katrina... Visited Spain, mexico, Cuban and other parts of south america... I speak 2 languages fluently and a 3rd one semi-fluently.

I think I could write solid essays and get good recommendation letters

but I have 2 pretty big problems. My ACT score (only took the test once) is nothing spectacular (in fact it's pretty horrid, in the 75th percentile).

Emory requires ACT/SAt scores for all transfers and mine are obviously well below par, anybody have any idea how much can this affect me in the admissions process ?

Also, I saw they have a PE/Nutrition requirement, but I haven't taken PE/nutrition classes since high school...what's the deal with these requirements ?

Don't worry about PE. There's only health and 3 PE classes, no nutrition. And transfers get to opt out of 2 of them I think. In any case, they are a joke and a lot of fun. Some kids don't get health education in HS, but if you did, then most of it will be a review. And they raise your GPA (usually).

Stellar GPA, etc. can outweigh subpar standardized test scores. It's really something that the admission committee will have to look at and make a decision on. If you play a sport or instrument or anything like that, get in contact with a professor or coach and have them vouch for you. Although they can't get you accepted, the admission committee definitely take into account if you have something great that you will add to the Emory community. You could also retake either the ACT or SAT?

I didn't see the other big problem. Was that the PE Health thing? If so, it's not a problem. Those hours don't even count toward the 128 you need for graduation, even though they are still required.

thanks for your responses dgebll. I do play an instrument and a sport as a matter of fact, but not for my current college, so there's really no record of me playing either one, unless you go back to my junior year in HS... Unfortunately I can't retake the ACT/SAT and still apply for the fall of 07. If I could I would do that for sure.

As far as the other requirements go, I'm glad to hear they can be waived or done there... I guess I'll just have to apply and see what mood the admission officers are in heh.
