Impressed with Jesuit Universities

doonvarn: S was accepted at John Carroll and we had a great visit there. The campus is beautiful, very classic college campus with similar traditional architecture etc. Located in a safe area in suburban Cleveland. Business majors have many internship opportunities especially at the Cleveland Clinic (large research hospital). Sports are DIII, but Ohioans love their sports at any level, so I am sure there are many students participating. There is a beautiful new science building and the dorms are nice as well. The chapel was full of information on service opportunities, many students go downtown on the weekends and help with feeding the homeless, etc. also trips over spring break to central and south america as service projects. Like all Jesuit schools “Be a man or woman for others” is the mantra. The school is small, but being in Cleveland and with all the museums/concerts/sports/entertainment that Cleveland has to offer (not to mention great ethnic food), I don’t think you would lack for much to do.

Tim Russert is a JCU graduate. You should visit if you have the chance.

The Congregation of Holy Cross is better.

Just saying.

My S was accepted to Fordham & U of Scranton. He has great aid packages from both, and was offered the SJLA program at U of Scranton. Can anyone comment on the merits of one over the other?

It was a difficult choice because he loves all the Jesuit school he applied to, however son has decided to attend Saint Louis University this fall.

The Jesuits are the largest and most influential, controversial and prestigious Catholic order. Jesuits number 20,170 worldwide, and compose the largest male religious order in the Roman Catholic Church. The Congregation of the Holy Cross (that runs Notre Dame) numbers just 1635 worldwide. Tiny by comparison.

I hopefully will end up at Loyola university chicago or Depaul

scranton university does anyone know much, it looks and sounds great, location?

All the grads I know from Scranton have loved it. Strong campus spirit, but it is in Scranton, which is a smaller, older industrial type city in PA. Draws students primarily from the mid-Atlantic or lower New England.
Strong in sciences and pre-professional programs.
Overall a solid Jesuit university.

poskymom ~ I sent you a PM!
