Hey ya'll!

So I applied to Georgetown as a transfer for the fall 2010 semester. My stats (SAT, high school GPA, college GPA) are all pretty good. However, I was not blessed with wonderful writing skills. My essays aren't bad, but they aren't going to blow anybody's socks off.

So my question is, how badly will mediocre essays affect my chances?

Thanks!

Hmm I too dont have “wonderful writing skills”… should we be like a great writer to impress adcom?

Not everyone was blessed with amazing writing skills (including myself). I believe that as long as you have a really good case for transferring and explain how Georgetown is the school for you, then it wont really matter how creative it is. Admissions counselors want to read quality not a bunch of fancy words with quality mixed in somewhere. I know for my essays i just made an interesting intro that might make the reader interested in what I had to say. Show passion, dedication, and how you are willing to work hard for your dream, can’t really go wrong with that sort of stuff.

However, if you want to major in writing, English, or journalism then you might want to make them as creative as possible to show your writing ability. I don’t think that is your case though.
