any ideas?

is a tutor affordable? Brought my 1530 sat to 29 act which is around. 2000. so yeahhh it helped a lot lol

Take good math and english classes junior year, they will help. Also read some practice books and maybe get a tutor if you think you need one.

Don’t be discouraged by your low score, though. You will have plenty of time to get it up. Good luck! :)

thats a good idea i think i am going to get a tutor thanks guys

Writing: Silverturtle’s Grammar Guide and then take a bunch of practice tests
Reading: Vocab: Direct Hits volumes 1 and 2. Passages: Just read and answer. Pretty straightforward stuff.
Math: Eh idk i actually didn’t study for this but i 800ed. consult someone else for this one.

@injectmagic when i take the practice tests do i time myself or just do it untimed?

You can start off with taking them untimed to get used to the format etc. but later on you should time yourself to better simulate test conditions.

where do I look for Silverturtle’s Grammar Guide? I cannot find it on amazon, ebay, or barnes & noble.

Marie,

My guess is that you’re going to take your first SAT in May of your junior year. This gives you plenty of time. My suggestion is that you don’t spend tons of money on an SAT tutor just yet. For the next few months try to do just a little SAT prep on your own - about 20 minutes a day, 3 to 4 days per week should do it for now. If you can motivate yourself, then you may not need a tutor. If you find yourself slacking off on your own, then consider getting a tutor or joining a prep course the beginning of next year. I am making this recommendation as someone who has been tutoring SAT math for about 12 years. Also check out my articles on “The Corrrect Way to Prepare for SAT Math,” and “Should I take a Prep Course in SAT Math.” They’re posted in several threads on this forum.

Best of luck!
