Improved Chances Scenario

I am curious, does the number of students applying from your high school affect your chances of acceptance? I have heard that if fewer students apply from your school, your chances increase and vice versa, especially with out of state public schools.

For example, if only 3 students apply to UWashington from my high school (including myself), then my chances increase (I'm from CT). How much of a difference will this make?

Thanks in advance.

I don’t think it’s so much your school, but rather your general area. In my school, only like 3-5 people apply to Ivies, but in an adjacent town over 30% of each class apply to Ivies. If your state is underrepresented in applications, you’ll probably have some advantage for geographic diversity.
