Improving Reading Comprehension

<p>I tried to get my S to try some reading comprehension software when it was clear early on that there were issues. He was not interested. He did do a lot of sample SAT tests and realized it was particular types of essays he was having trouble with, the lit ones, especially Brit lit. He ended up having to read a lot of Brit Lit over the summer before Sr. year for his English class, and went up dramatically on the SAT. He attributes it to those books.</p>

<p>Someone mentioned sub-vocalizing and now I read this whole thread in words in my head. Crap (it’s like when you talk about blinking and suddenly every blink is conscious - oh crap). I didn’t realize people actually did that. That’s fascinating! I don’t think I even read all the words on a page. I just seem to look at the words and know what they mean - I don’t even consider short words like the or and.</p>
